How can I insulate the walls in my house, without removing the sheet rock?

My house was built in the 70s, I am pretty certain there is no insulation in the walls you can feel the heat from outside when you touch them inside. I just want to make the place more energy efficient without ripping out all the drywall.How can I insulate the walls in my house, without removing the sheet rock?
consider the whole house, what condition is the outside of the house like? if you are thinking of having it sided it can be insulated then covered. there are multiple ways to do it then. over the old siding, or with the blown in type too. i'm doing my house now and i am stripping the old siding off, putting up tyvek, then putting up 3/4'; hi density foam board. it will be like 6'; insulated walls when done, then vinyl siding it. doing that will create a dead air space in the walls and will add even more r value too. lots of options available so call around and get some quotes/ ideas. check with siding contractors,and insulation contractors too. just offering some ideas to consider, hope this helpsHow can I insulate the walls in my house, without removing the sheet rock?
You can have it blown in from the outside. They cut round holes near your roof line and blow the insulation into the walls. Or they can make holes in the gyproc that need to be repaired after wards. You can add Styrofoam insulation to the outside and then refinish the exterior. The best thing to do is bite the bullet and take down the gyproc doing one room at a time. This way you get a good vapor barrier up etc..

On that show ';This Old House'; I saw them cutting little holes in old paneling and spraying in an insulation that was a recycled material made of newspapers. I don't know how much this costs, or if you can rent the equipment and do it yourself, but it's a suggestion.
There are contractors out there that can blow insulation into the walls for you. Make sure they are insured, I've seen places were the installer didn't know what he was doing and blew the drywall of the wall.
They come in from the outside ususlly. They cut a hole about the size of a doorknob hole and put a hose in there and pump the insulation in. I don't know what they do about the holes.
they can blow it from the attack no holes in the side of your house and you might as well have the attack blown too i have blown and it is a world of diff from my last house that did not

Catherine is right, and yes, you CAN rent the equipment and do it yourself, however, insualtion is not very expensive and I'd reccommend just letting the professional do it; the estimate I recently got was just $50 (more) for them to do it all than for me to rent equipment and buy the insulation, and do all the work!
