I've planted daylilies at all different times except in winter. They're extremely tough. I've even bought %26amp; planted them when they went on sale at 1/2 price in the fall. I've replanted %26amp; divided them when they were in bloom whenever I wanted to rearrange the color scheme.





BTW, Last yr, Home Depot sold their $10 Knockout Roses for $2 in late fall here in Ohio (zone5).

You can plant any plant anytime. There are better times in the year to plant, but you can plant anytime, it just may take some more care. I use to work for a landscaping company, and we would plant, especially daylillies, throughout the summer, even if it was really hot. Planting in July just means you have to keep an eye on your plant and may have to water it more often until it gets good and established.

Ha Ha Ha. I love the hardy day lillies. The joke is their hardiness. You will understand after you have some.





We had a housed troubled teen buildings a couple of blocks from my house. They would deliberately leave the sidewalk the trample the daylillies, one time in mid summer someone cut 5' length of them down to 1'; from ground level (couple of weeks those were same size as what was not cut) , I've even seen some idiot allowing his large dog (on a leash) to climb into this flower bed and pee in there).





What area of zone 4 are you? If in my area, I will give you free lillies (I have extra and so does my mom).

I would have to agree with daylillies too. I have them everywhere in my yard....take a look at the site below at the different kinds you can get. These are just a few of the different colors I have in my yard, which are in rock gardens and rock borders, and they are a very tough flower. They will survive the planting in July.
Sedum. Ease of care, lots of varieties, locks good amongst rock.
